The children’s unit was opened as a hospital unit within the structure of Higia Hospital in 2002. The unit is on the sixth floor of the hospital. The rooms are functionally arranged and provide connection between themselves as well as with the rest of the offices, rooms and communication systems at the hospital. The unit has 35 beds and an intensive care section of 3 beds. In 2006, an enterocolitis section was established. It is totally isolated from the other sections at the unit and follows all legal requirements for anti-epidemic order. A specialist in infectious diseases is in charge of the section. It has separate nursing and auxiliary staff. The medical equipment meets all current requirements and standards for operating within a children’s unit. There are five physicians working at the unit, all of them having specialized in children’s diseases, and one specialist in infectious diseases. Doctors in all other areas (resuscitators, surgeons, otorhinolaryngologists, urologists, etc.) are available as consultants. |
